UFC legend Jon Jones took issue with former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman siding with Brock Lesnar in a potential wrestling match.
Former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones remains at odds with Dana White and the matchmakers after he was excluded from a spot on the upcoming White House card. Despite announcing his retirement from MMA last summer, Jones quickly reversed course when U.S. President Donald Trump announced the UFC’s upcoming card on the White House lawn.
Jones was briefly linked to a potential showdown against either Alex Pereira or Tom Aspinall, but according to Jones, he was ‘lowballed’ financially by the UFC. He hasn’t fought since finishing Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, in what would end up being his first and only heavyweight title defense.
After asking for his UFC release and hinting at another MMA retirement, Jones could potentially return in another combat sport. Jones has briefly teased a potential wrestling match with two-time UFC rival Daniel Cormier in Real American Freestyle.
Jon Jones issues guarantee to Kamaru Usman after Usman picks Brock Lesnar
Amidst talks of Jones competing in wrestling, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was asked for his prediction in a hypothetical matchup between former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Jones. Usman sided with Lesnar’s girth and overall strength to get the better of Jones on the mats.
In a recent Instagram story post, Jones responded to Usman’s prediction.
“[Kamaru] I’m getting my hand raised against you and Brock in the same night,” Jones said.
Jones has plenty of reasons to feel supremely confident in his odds to defeat Lesnar on the mat. Before making the full-time transition to Mixed Martial Arts, Jones was a standout wrestler in junior college and entertained several Division I offers.
But Lesnar also has many accolades in wrestling and was a standout at the University of Minnesota before becoming a legend in WWE. If a matchup between Lesnar and Jones were to come to fruition, fans can expect chaos to ensue.
