A retro-inspired horror game with extraction missions, scavenging, and tactical combat arrives later this month.
Vultures – Scavengers of Death finally gets a release date and it’s looking to be another one of those interesting horror hybrid releases. Team Vultures, along with their new publishing partner, Firesquid Games, announced last week that the tactical turn-based survival horror RPG will hit the shelves on April 28th, 2026, on PC.
Vultures is a retro styled horror experience that utilizes extraction-based missions, utilizing a combination of scavenging and careful resource utilization. There are a number of references to 90’s survival horror in regards to both the tone and structure of the gameplay.
You take the role of a VULTURE operative sent into the ruins of Salento Valley after a bio-hazardous event has caused the area to become a hazardous wasteland. Your job is to extract valuable resources and data related to finding a possible cure for the virus that is rapidly infecting areas all around the globe.

Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of Vultures’ design is its dual agent system. Players will be able to send either Leopoldo or Amber to complete missions; however, sending these agents will alter the way they interact within the environment.
Leopoldo is designed to be powerful and physically active in his interactions. He can walk, push, and jump over objects allowing him to manipulate the surrounding environment. On the other hand, Amber relies on her agility and accuracy. She uses a grappling hook to quickly traverse the environment while influencing enemy positions.

The remaining elements of the framework follow closely behind the traditional survival horror model. Supplies are scarce. Ammunition and health items are extremely important. Keys, codes, and pieces of information stand between the player and their next objectives.
The city itself serves as both puzzle box and death trap. Each location destroyed is filled with tools, relics, and scraps of information for the player to uncover. There are a lot of weapons like pistols, rifles, knives, and even Katanas. However, Vultures doesn’t appear to want players solving problems solely through brute force.
Stealth, retreating, and determining when to engage in battle are presented as key strategies. In this regard Vultures appears more grounded than many horror-themed strategy games. It appears to be concerned with creating pressure by having players feel under-equipped and uncertain rather than forcing every encounter into a neat tactical sandbox.

Team Vultures is overtly drawing inspiration from retro PS1-era aesthetics, and firesquids pitches repeatedly reference foundational Survival Horror franchises such as Resident Evil as influences. When I say retro PS1-era Aesthetics I don’t simply mean low-poly Nostalgia or an environmentally ravaged city crawling with mutants.
I am referring to a slower-paced, more deliberate type of horror where Isolation, Limited supplies, and uneasy Exploration do most of the heavy lifting.
Firesquid also mentioned character Progression/Customization, including Leveling, Specialties, and Load-out Building, which would give Vultures additional Long-term Structure beyond a pure Retro-throwback. We should wait for the 28th of April, when it launches on PC via Steam, to see if it delivers. In the meantime, you can try the demo and watch the new Release Date Trailer.
