Ministry of Defense Japan
On February 13, commencing at 17:00 (local time) for approximately 20 minutes, Minister of Defense Koizumi, who was visiting Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference, held a Japan-Canada defense Ministerial Meeting with the Hon. David J. McGuinty, Minister of National Defence of Canada.
- The two ministers noted that, based on the shared recognition that security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is becoming increasingly inseparable, strengthening cooperation with like-minded countries such as Canada, an Indo-Pacific nation and also an Atlantic nation, is becoming ever more important. In response, Minister McGuinty also shared his intention to further deepen cooperation with Japan.
- The two ministers welcomed that “the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of Canada on the Security of Information” entered into force last month, and confirmed that they would continue to work closely together for further deepening the Japan-Canada defense cooperation and exchanges through the Agreement as well as toward the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
