Volkanovski (28-4 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since reclaiming the promotion‘s featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Lopes at last April’s UFC 314 event in Miami. That victory snapped a two-fight losing skid for ‘The Great’, as Volk had previously suffered back-to-back knockout losses at the hands of Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev respectively.
Meanwhile, Diego Lopes (27- MMA) was most previously seen in action this past September, where he scored a second-round TKO victory over Jean Silva (see that here). The Brazilian has gone 6-1 over his past seven Octagon appearances overall, with his lone loss in that time coming against Alex Volkanovski.

Round one of the UFC 325 main event begins and Alex Volkanovski lands a low kick as Diego Lopes attempt to get inside. The challenger answers with a low kick of his own. Two more low kicks from the champ. He shoots in, but Lopes stuffs the takedown attempt and counters nicely with a right hand. Volk replies with a nice 1-2. Lopes with a nice outside low kick. Lopes with a body kick which is blocked. ‘The Great’ with a nice low kick. He shoots in for a takedown. Alex Volkanovski pushes Diego Lopes against the cage. He lands some nice knees from the position. Lopes scrambles and gets free. Volk with a nice right hand. He follows that with a left jab. Diego smiles, but those were two solid shots. The horn sounds to end the opening round.
Round two of the UFC 325 main event begins and Alex Volkanovski circles to his left as Diego Lopes takes the center of the cage. The champ with a nice hook and then a low kick. He looks very smooth and comfortable in there. Lopes with a hard outside low kick. He lands another. A decent combination from the challenger and then another low kick. ‘The Great’ with a low kick that partially connects. Lopes steps into the pocket with a flurry. He lands a nice low kick as the champ attempts to get back to range. A nice 1-2 from Volkanovski. Lopes continues to press. He shoots for a takedown. Alex Volkanovski jumps on a guillotine. Diego Lopes pulls out and is now in top control on the ground. Volk scrambles back up. Lopes takes his back. The horn sounds to end round two.

Round three of the UFC 325 headliner begins and both men are clearly respectful of the others power and precision. Diego Lopes with a low kick and then a right hand. Alex Volkanovski answers with a pair of jabs and then an outside low kick. A big right hand connects for the champ. He charges forward with a flurry. Lopes avoids anything significant and gets back to range. Diego Lopes with a sneaky punch that drops Volkanovski. The champ fires back but still appears to be a bit flustered. A good knee from Lopes. The horn sounds to end round three.

Round four of the UFC 325 headliner begins and both men seem happy to stand and trade early. Alex Volkanovski with a jab and then a low kick. Diego Lopes with a jab. ‘The Great’ answers with a nice right hook. Volk with a nice right hook. He looks very comfortable and is choosing his shots wisely. Another nice jab from the champ. Lopes with a low kick. The fighters trade hooks in the pocket. Alex with a low kick that hits the groin of the challenger. The referee steps in and we have a break so Diego can recover. We restart and these featherweight warriors beginning trading big shots. The horn sounds and we go to round five.
The fifth and final round of the UFC 325 headliner begins and Diego Lopes comes out aggressively. He chases Alex Volkanovski around the cage. ‘The Great’ shoots in and lands a takedown. Lopes with a guillotine choke. Volk escapes and gets back to his feet. ‘The Great’ with a takedown. Lopes scrambles up. He reverses position and winds up taking the champ down to the ground. Lopes hops on the back of Volk. He locks in both hooks. Alex stands but Diego is still on him. Two minutes remain in the fight. Volk eventually gets Lopes off his back. He lands some big elbows to the body as Diego looks to shoot. Alex Volkanovski switches the position. Diego Lopes drops for an armbar. He has a good hold of this submission attempt. Volk eventually pulls out and is now working some hammer fists. His ass is literally on Lopes’ face. Diego looks for a heel hook. It is not there. The horn sounds to end the fight.
