Introduction
What a week it has been, and what a week we are going to have! This has to be the biggest piece of news compilation I have written in the last couple of years. Certainly, the biggest one since I remember starting this format. There’s the Steam Next Fest 2026 starting in a couple of days, the release of Burden of Command Three Nations DLC, a release date for Slay the Spire 2, and even a new real-time strategy game with dinosaurs from MicroProse.
If you want to keep up to date with what’s going on with Strategy and Wargames, make sure to bookmark my news page!
Steam Next Fest 2026 Starts In Two Days
The demo revival brought to us by Steam is, by far, one of my favorite trends in gaming over the last five years. In fact, the first Steam Fest happened exactly 5 years ago! The Steam Next Fest 2026 is starting on February 23rd, and it’s going to run until March 2nd, and amidst all the craziness of seeing hundreds (or thousands) of new games releasing their demos and trying out their luck, players will eventually pick a couple to rise to the demo and become some of the most anticipated games going forward. Next week, I might have my gaming time limited, but I’ll certainly give some of those a try as soon as I come home from traveling, and I’ll make sure to write some strong recommendations for games to play.
Slay The Spire 2 Early Access Releases March 5th
The sequel to one of the best card games of all time, and a fan-favorite for those who are looking for quick one-and-done gaming sessions, is getting a sequel on the 5th of March! That’s right, Slay The Spire 2, the most anticipated strategy game of 2026, is coming out to Early Access in less than two weeks. The sequel is going to add new graphics, two new characters, more cards and enemies, and expand on the Spire’s lore. Do you plan on getting it?
MicroProse Software Announces RTS With Dinos Called Repterra
MicroProse keeps growing the number of titles it has under its belt, and now Repterra is a part of its repertoire. A base-building, survival real-time strategy game set in a timeline where the dinosaurs took over the planet. From what I managed to gather from taking a look at the gameplay trailer (above), this game is going to be something similar to They Are Billions and Age of Darkness, but instead of zombies and Lovecraftian horrors, it’s T. Rex and Raptors. Over 100.000 of them at one time, on screen. Silly? Yes. Super cool? Hell yeah! The game is also going to have dinosaur taming and breeding, so maybe that’s where the dinosaurs spitting fire come from.
Burden of Command Three Nations DLC Releases This Week
Burden of Command has done well enough to deserve its first DLC. Called Burden of Command Three Nations, the DLC actually features 4 nations, and 5 missions, and 3 new armed forces (British and American Paratroopers and the Wehrmach) with widely different doctrines and playstyles. 4 of the available missions are built around the iconic capture of the Pegasus Bridge (playable from different perspectives), and the fifth mission is the capturing of Meyers’ Hill. Having played the DLC, I’m very happy with it, even if I miss the long campaign element that made the first experience one of the best World War 2 wargames ever made, and one of my all-time favorites.
