NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating the deadly shooting involving a pedicab driver and one of his passengers outside Bridgestone Arena early Saturday morning.
Officers responded to the BetMGM Sports Lounge at Bridgestone Arena on Rep. John Lewis Way around 2:30 a.m. and found 23-year-old Adrian Rivas-Romo suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.
The officers detained Romo’s pedicab operator, 21-year-old Christopher Jones, who admitted to shooting Romo, but claimed it was in self-defense. The officers seized the pistol he used as evidence, according to MNPD’s report.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate Jones’ claim, but have learned that the shooting stemmed from an argument over the cost of the cab ride.
The investigation shows that Romo was visiting from Memphis with a group of friends and used two pedicabs in the early morning hours on Saturday to get back to their hotel.
The report states that one of the friends began arguing over the fare and forced their cab to stop outside the sports lounge at Bridestone Arena. Romo was riding in the other cart, operated by Jones, which also stopped, and soon everyone from both vehicles exited their rides.
Jones refused to continue with the ride, and the report states that a “physical altercation” occurred. Jones claims that he was punched in the back of the head by one of Romo’s friends.
He went into his cart to retrieve his pistol and fired at Romo, who he claims was rushing toward him. The shot would ultimately prove fatal.
No charges have been filed against Jones as the investigation continues. The District Attorney’s Office was alerted to the incident, according to the report from MNPD.
