Drugs and a gun: I-90
An officer stopped a car at 9 p.m., Nov. 12, on I-90 for driving without working taillights.
Loaded firearms magazines were seen in the passenger compartment while the officer was obtaining the driver’s license. The passenger admitted to having a gun in his pocket, according to a police department press release.
Investigation revealed that the passenger, a 34-year-old Toledo man, was not allowed to possess a firearm due to a prior criminal conviction, according to the department. Officers charged the man with improper handling of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
The driver, a 31-year-old Toledo woman, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance.
OVI: I-90
Officers on patrol at 2 a.m. on Nov. 12 noticed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee weaving on I-90 near Columbia Road.
The Jeep was speeding and driving off and on the highway shoulder, according to a police department press release. Officers stopped the Jeep near Cahoon Road.
The female driver appeared intoxicated but denied drinking that night. Reports note that the 30-year-old Lakewood resident had to brace herself against a car door to regain her balance as she exited the vehicle.
Officers field-tested the driver and arrested her for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She refused to submit to a breath test after saying that she was “not really wasted.”
Her license was immediately suspended for refusing the chemical test. Later, she was released to a sober ride.
Misidentification: Crocker Road
Officers stopped a vehicle at 11 a.m. on Nov. 9 on Crocker Road at Hospice Way for moving violations and discovered the driver was wanted on other charges.
The driver said that he did not have his license with him. When asked for his Social Security number, the man said that he was “not good with numbers.” The driver provided the officer with a name, but he could not provide a date of birth. After the man changed his name two additional times, the officers gave up trying to have him identify himself.
Investigation revealed an actual state ID in the vehicle with the man’s true identity. The 39-year-old Cleveland man was wanted on felony warrants from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department for a sex offense, felonious assault, and having weapons under disability, according to a Westlake Police Department press release.
Officers arrested the driver and charged him with misidentification, driving under suspension, and failure to signal.
Theft: Bobby Lane
Officers responded at 8 p.m. on Nov. 9 to Bobby Lane for a reported theft from a car.
A Volkswagen that was parked in a lot had been entered. Expensive clothing and a change purse were missing.
The owners had forgotten to lock the vehicle, according to the police department.
Arrest on warrant: I-90
A caller at 11:30 p.m. Nov. 13 reported spotting a person walking along I-90 near Columbia Road after their vehicle had broken down.
Another caller reported almost striking a pedestrian as the man crossed the lanes of the highway.
Officers located the man walking on I-90 between Clague Road and Detroit Road. The 34-year-old Stow man was wanted by Akron police on a felony drug warrant, according to the Westlake Police Department.
The disabled vehicle was towed from the highway.
