2026 could be the year of UFC superstar Nate Diaz’s return to the Octagon for the first time since UFC 279.
It’s been almost four full years since UFC fans have watched Nate Diaz compete inside the Octagon. After submitting Tony Ferguson in a short-notice bout at UFC 279, Diaz parted ways with the promotion, fighting twice in the boxing ring.
Following a lopsided defeat to Jake Paul and his first pro boxing win over Jorge Masvidal, Diaz sounds ready to return to his roots. He’s repeatedly teased a return to the Octagon in recent months, but has downplayed the state of the UFC’s roster.
Diaz was an essential part of the BMF title lore as he and Masvidal battled for the inaugural belt at UFC 244. Masvidal won the bout by doctor’s stoppage after Diaz suffered a massive cut on his face during the fight.
Nate’s brother, Nick, is also teasing a potential return to fighting in 2026. Later this summer, the two brothers could return on the same card, as Nate prepares for potential BMF redemption.
Nate Diaz signals 2026 UFC return; potentially against Holloway/Oliveira winner
In a recent post to X, Diaz appeared to signal a UFC comeback for the BMF title.
“Let’s not act like I didn’t start a whole division bringing value to all these guys claiming they’re it,” Diaz posted.
“I gave opportunity and put notice on the dopest fights I got unfinished business and I plan on going and taking what’s mine asap 1st to ever start a division and the dopest one at that.
“You’re welcome m************* I’ll see you soon I’m coming.”
Diaz’s signaled return to the UFC comes just weeks before BMF champion Max Holloway fights Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 326. As of this writing, neither Holloway nor Oliveira has responded to Diaz’s recent remarks.
Another potential fit for Diaz’s return opponent is Conor McGregor, who wants to return to the cage this summer at the upcoming White House event. UFC CEO Dana White remains non-committal to McGregor’s return opponent.
