In today’s battlespace, Shahed-type fixed-wing loitering munitions, drones, and cruise missiles have emerged as one of the most significant threats for all nations. Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE), Türkiye’s most established defence industry company, has developed the MKE TOLGA Short-Range Air Defence System (SHORAD), offering a critical solution to these threats with its “Effective–Simple–Affordable” approach.
The system delivers an integrated solution combining command and control, radar, electro-optical systems, electronic jammers, multi-calibre weapon systems, and specially developed ammunition within a single architecture.
HOW DOES MKE TOLGA NEUTRALISE THREATS?
MKE TOLGA neutralises aerial threats through two methods: Soft-Kill and Hard-Kill. In soft-kill engagements, detected drone threats are suppressed through electronic jamming at ranges of up to 10 kilometres. In hard-kill engagements, threats are physically neutralised using MKE-developed 12.7 mm, 20 mm, and 35 mm weapon systems, supported by dedicated anti-drone ammunition.
The programmable anti-drone ammunition, with optimised detonation timing and distance, creates a fragmentation cloud around the target, ensuring effective neutralisation of UAVs and drones. The 35 mm ammunition provides effective engagement up to 3,000 metres, while the 20 mm system is effective up to 1,000 metres, and the 12.7 mm fragmentation ammunition up to 300 metres. Designed for operational flexibility, MKE TOLGA can operate in manual, semi- autonomous, and fully autonomous modes. Thanks to its modular design, the system can be integrated into fixed installations such as military bases, energy facilities, and refineries, as well as mobile platforms, armoured and unarmoured vehicles, and naval platforms.
THREE NEW CAPABILITIES TO BE INTEGRATED INTO MKE TOLGA
With its layered architecture and integrated capabilities, MKE TOLGA provides an affordable solution to the needs of the modern battlefield. In the near future, microwave based systems will be integrated at the lowest layer, creating a new defence layer against swarm threats. Another system to be integrated is the Laser Weapon System, which will enable continuous, high-precision engagement, particularly against low-cost targets requiring rapid response. Additionally, high-technology missile systems with high-altitude and long-range capabilities will be incorporated to counter large and complex aerial threats such as Shahed-type UAVs. A cost-effective missile system capable of engaging targets within the 3–8 kilometre range will further strengthen MKE TOLGA’s multi-layered air defence architecture.
AGREEMENTS SIGNED WITH THREE COUNTRIES FOR MKE TOLGA!
During live-fire tests conducted in November 2025, the system was demonstrated to foreign military delegations from 14 countries and successfully neutralised fixed-wing UAVs and drones across eight different scenarios with a 100% success rate.
To date, three export agreements have been signed with Qatar, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia for the MKE TOLGA Short-Range Air Defence System, which provides a cost-effective solution against low-cost drone threats. Negotiations with countries from different regions of the world are ongoing.
