DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – A new fitness center is coming to Lincoln Park aimed at supporting young athletes.
Essentia’s Heritage Center held a ribbon cutting Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s grand opening of their new fitness facility.
What will now be known as the Nygaard-Forbort Fitness Center, is a space within the Duluth Heritage Center for young athletes that area already spending time in the facility for practice and games.
The 1,000 sq. ft. gym is geared towards teens, but will soon be tailored for users of all-ages.
The strength and conditioning hub is equipped with state of the art equipment.
Jeff Stark, the President and CEO of the Heritage Center said, “This was a much needed space that is in existence in a bunch of other facilities that are similar to the heritage center.“
He also said, “We’re trying to develop a healthy, fitness friendly lifestyle even if they never make it to the next level of hockey, soccer, football, anything else like that, they’re learning healthy habits here that hopefully carry with them for the rest of their lives.“
The Nygaard-Forbort Fitness Center will officially open to the public Wednesday for hourly rentals and memberships for teams and groups.
Heritage Center leaders are still discussing when they will offer individual memberships.
This project was made possible by the Nygaard and Forbort families, as well as the Glen Avon Hockey Foundation and the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce.
