Gillian Robertson sees herself as the obvious No. 1 contender for Mackenzie Dern’s UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship.
Robertson was looking to extend her winning streak to five when she shared the Octagon with Amanda Lemos at UFC Vegas 114 this past Saturday. “The Savage” achieved her goal by earning a unanimous decision victory inside the Meta Apex.
Having not suffered a loss since 2023, Robertson believes it’s time for her to challenge for UFC gold. During the UFC Vegas 114 post-fight press conference, Robertson said her sights are on Dern’s 115-pound gold (h/t MMAJunkie).
“I think it’s the only thing that makes sense,” Robertson said. “Five wins in a row, most submissions, most finishes – I think that I deserve that spot. The only thing that would only solidify me any more is that belt.”
Robertson then revealed that she’s been dealing with a hip problem. She insists that it wouldn’t prevent her from taking a title fight against Dern.
“It’s not an issue to the point I feel I can’t fight with it,” Robertson said. “It’s more of an issue with walking, sleeping and things like that. Everyday life, it’s more of an issue for me. It doesn’t really stop me with anything in the cage.”
Zhang Weili could very well stand in Robertson’s way. Weili vacated the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight title. Ultimately, Weili fell short against “Bullet,” and she could be on her way back to title contention at 115 pounds.
Robertson will be getting a boost in the official UFC women’s strawweight rankings. She had the No. 8 spot going into her bout with the No. 5-ranked Lemos. She will likely still be behind Weili, Tatiana Suarez, Virna Jandiroba, and Yan Xiaonan.
