Blue-chip heavyweight MMA prospect Gable Steveson left out two of the greatest heavyweights off of his personal Mount Rushmore.
Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson could be months away from making his UFC debut. The blue-chip prospect returns this weekend as he looks to move to 3-0 in his young MMA career.
Steveson, a top protege of Jon Jones’, is looking to add more gold to his resume. Joe Rogan and UFC CEO Dana White have already called Steveson a potential superstar in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
Despite the immense hype surrounding his MMA career, Steveson remains a student of the game as he looks to continue to make improvements in the cage. Before making the full-time move from wrestling to MMA, Steveson wrestled with the likes of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and other top names.
The UFC’s heavyweight division has produced some of the greatest fighters of all-time, including Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez. But Steveson doesn’t believe Miocic or Velasquez belong in the pantheon of great MMA heavyweights.
Gable Steveson puts Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar on heavyweight MMA Mount Rushmore
In a recent sitdown with Submission Radio, Steveson shared his heavyweight MMA Mount Rushmore.
“My Mount Rushmore of heavyweights would probably be Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones, and I always have to throw Brock Lesnar in,” Steveson said.
“When Brock showed up people watched, and people cared. (He’s) one of the best combat sports athletes of all time, what an honor it was to be next to him in the wrestling room, what a great time we had.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)
Steveson returns to the cage this weekend against Hugo Lezama at Mexican Fight League 3. A win could potentially signal a call from White and the matchmakers for a shot in the Octagon.
