Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has filed a nine-figure lawsuit against Showtime, alleging missing earnings from his Conor McGregor bout.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is taking legal action against his longtime business partner, Showtime, and former president Stephen Espinoza, alleging around $340 million in missing earnings. Mayweather’s lawsuit includes alleged missing earnings stemming from his 2017 showdown with former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.
Mayweather filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on Tuesday focused on ‘recovering hundreds of millions of dollars in misappropriated funds and damages resulting from a long-running and elaborate scheme of financial fraud’. The lawsuit also alleged ‘lost investment growth’ and accused Espinoza and Showtime of transferring funds intended for Mayweather to his former manager and advisor, Al Haymon.
Mayweather’s wins over McGregor and 2015 rival Manny Pacquiao are the main fights focused in the lawsuit. The boxing legend signed a lucrative deal with Showtime in 2013 and fought under the promotion until his professional retirement in 2017.
Floyd Mayweather files $340 million lawsuit against Showtime ahead of Mike Tyson bout
Mayweather is preparing for an upcoming showdown with heavyweight boxing great Mike Tyson in their return to the ring. The fight, which was announced late last year, remains without a scheduled date and venue.
Mayweather was recently rumored to fight kickboxer Mike Zambidis in June, as Zambidis recently claimed on his Instagram account. As of this writing, the fight remains unofficial.
Mayweather walked away from professional boxing with multiple world championships and a 50-0 record. He then moved to exhibition competition, fighting the likes of influencer Logan Paul and Mikuru Asakura.
As of this writing, Showtime and Espinoza haven’t provided a comment on Mayweather’s $340 lawsuit. This is a developing story, and we’ll share more details as they become available.
