Handewitt/Flensburg, February 6, 2026 – With the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the new Plant 3, FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) is sending a clear signal for growth, future security, and the further expansion of its industrial capabilities. Together with Minister President Daniel Günther, the Chief of Defence of the German Armed Forces General Carsten Breuer, and Mayor of Handewitt Thomas Rasmussen, FFG shareholder representative Norbert Erichsen and managing directors Max Heimann and Jörg Kamper officially launched the major project.
The event was attended by numerous representatives from politics, administration, the German Armed Forces, international armed forces, and industry – a visible expression of the project’s importance for the region and beyond.
Plant 3 is a key future project for FFG. With the new location, the company is creating additional production capacity, modern and attractive jobs, and a high degree of flexibility for different systems and customer requirements. In the future, new vehicle systems such as ACSV and WiSENT 2, as well as CAVS in the long term, will be manufactured here. Production is scheduled to start in spring 2027.
The first construction phase will see the creation of a five-story administration building, two production halls, and a logistics hall with an automated high-bay warehouse. The plant is consistently designed for flexibility, growth, and long-term use.
Minister President Daniel Günther praised the project as a “strong sign of the expansion of European defence capabilities” and emphasized the importance of FFG as an innovative, internationally active company in the defence technology sector in Schleswig-Holstein.
In his speech, Norbert Erichsen, spokesperson for the shareholders, emphasized FFG’s long-term commitment to the region and to its own responsibility:
“With the new plant, we at FFG are continuing to develop at all levels. It is a very long-term investment – in our capabilities, in high-quality jobs, and in Schleswig-Holstein as a business location. We are making this investment consciously out of a sense of corporate responsibility.”
FFG would like to express its special thanks to the municipality of Handewitt and the Schleswig-Flensburg building authority, which have supported the project with exceptional commitment. Through close, solution-oriented cooperation, decisive conditions were created in a short period of time – an example of an administration that thinks pragmatically and also goes the proverbial “extra mile.”
With Plant 3, FFG is not only strengthening its own competitiveness and delivery capabilities, but also making an important contribution to the defence capabilities of the German Armed Forces and European partners.
