Tonight, community members are offering support to the family of corrections officer Jeremy Hall. Investigators say an inmate attacked him at the prison where he worked in Grayson County, Virginia.Sam Bartlett owns Curtis Bartlett Fitness. He says many members of the gym knew Officer Jeremy Hall. He felt moved to help because his son died in the line of duty. The vibe was solemn at the gym.”Well, I get chills now just thinking about it,” Bartlett said. The Curtis Bartlett Fitness Center is a gym where many veterans and first responders work out — some of whom knew corrections officer Jeremy Hall and worked alongside him.”It’s really thinking about his wife, his stepdaughter. I’m good friends with his uncle, who I’ve spoken to about how we can serve the family,” Bartlett said. Bartlett says Hall’s death hits close to home for him. “On March 9, 2017, our oldest son, Curtis, who was a veteran and a first responder, he was a deputy right here in his hometown, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and so he died in the line of duty.”Bartlett named the gym in his son’s honor. He says his own experience with loss made him want to offer support to the Hall family. “It took many weeks and months for us just to get over the numbness of losing someone that you love so much,” Bartlett added. “Even though it’s painful because it relives what we went through in 2017, I believe that my experience now needs to be used to help other people.” Bartlett wants to make sure Officer Hall’s legacy will not be forgotten — which is why Bartlett says Hall will be remembered alongside his son in a remembrance day the gym holds on Curtis’s end of watch in March. “We honor and celebrate Curtis’ end of watch, knowing that he gave his life doing what he was called to do, and we’re now going to include Jeremy and his family in any other officer, especially in the state of Virginia, that may have lost their lives and celebrate with us as we celebrate Curtis,” Bartlett said.Jeremy Hall’s wife Dawn and she says the family is still trying to process everything.She says early next week, there will be a local small family and friends get-together to remember Jeremy, and in December, there will be a larger memorial service.
