Kate Lotus competes against Katie Perez at Rizin 53 on May 10th. When asked if it was exciting to get a quicker turnaround here and get back out to the ring after the March setback at Rizin 52, Kate Lotus said [via Bowks Talking Bouts], “I prefer fighting with quick turnarounds. I mean obviously weight cutting is something that is always kind of an obstacle but for this fight we’ve agreed to catch weight. So weight shouldn’t be an issue.” When asked if after this catchweight contest she was more interested in pursuing a path toward RFF super atomweight gold,…
Iran claimed Thursday that it struck U.S. military assets in the Strait of Hormuz after an alleged American attack on an Iranian tanker. U.S. Central Command refuted the claims, saying that American warships intercepted Iranian missiles, drones and small boats during a transit operation and that no U.S. assets were hit. The claims were circulated Thursday by IRIB News, part of Iran’s state broadcasting network, which cited an unnamed military official alleging U.S. military units “came under Iranian missile fire in the Strait of Hormuz and, after sustaining damage, were forced to flee” following what Tehran described as an American…
Students at Department of Defense Education Activity schools should start practicing their push-ups, pull-ups, planks, shuttle-run or one-mile run in preparation for the Presidential Fitness Test, which will soon be required at DoD schools. During a White House ceremony marking the return of the Presidential Fitness Test awards, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Tuesday the test will be mandatory in the DoD’s 161 K-12 schools across 30 military installations. Recalling his childhood striving to earn the top award level, Hegseth said he hoped the requirement would serve as a “pilot for all of American education.” “I remember it because it…

Four decades after Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell first felt the need for speed in the cockpit of an F-14 Tomcat, new legislation is keeping hope alive that the iconic swept-wing fighter could someday fly again. In late April, the U.S. Senate, led by sponsor Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., unanimously approved the “Maverick Act,” introduced by freshman U.S. Rep. Abraham Hamadeh, an Illinois Republican and Army Reserve officer. The bill, which has yet to become law, authorizes the secretary of the Navy to hand over the service’s three remaining F-14D Tomcats to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Commission in Huntsville,…
Today we demonstrate a technique for creating a hard exterior layer on low carbon steel or iron called case hardening. We’ve made videos in the past on hardening carbon steels by heating them to critical temperature and then quenching the steel, which causes the structure of the steel to change and form new mechanical qualities, such as increased hardness and decreased ductility. This is useful for creating a tool or weapon that can hold an edge, but it requires that the steel have a particular amount of carbon as part of the formula of the metal (usually between .4 and…
CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida—The guardians manning screens in the mission-ops center here oversaw the launch of five types of rockets in April, a new record that involved NASA’s Artemis II, the first reused New Glenn booster, and a Falcon 9 lofting the final GPS III satellite. But tomorrow’s Space Force may have no time to mark even epochal missions. Within a decade, service leaders say, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station will be launching hundreds of rockets a year.To facilitate the Pentagon’s fast-growing demand for orbital capability, the Space Force is looking for more launch sites, more money, more troops, and more…
iSeeCars recently published a pretty cool study on the used car market, finding surprisingly little overlap between the fastest-selling used models and the top-selling new cars, trucks, and SUVs. For instance, would you believe that the Ford F-150 doesn’t even make the list? Note that this list tracks how long vehicles are staying on the dealer’s lot, and not overall sales volume, but even so, it illustrates that the new and used marketplaces are two very different spheres. The following is based directly on data from a study by iSeeCars. Models are listed from slowest to fastest-selling based on how…

UFC rising star Vinicius Oliveira will move to featherweight after suffering a lopsided main event loss to Mario Bautista. Dana White’s Contender Series alumni Vinicius Oliveira’s first UFC main event booking didn’t go according to plan, as he lost to Mario Bautista at the Apex in February. The defeat ended a four-fight unbeaten streak to begin his promotional tenure, after recent wins over Said Nurmagomedov and Kyler Phillips. For the first time in Oliveira’s UFC bantamweight tenure, he was challenged on the feet and dominated when the fight moved to the ground against Bautista. Bautista submitted Oliveira with a rear-naked…
