Big biceps are easy to notice, but judging whether they are big for your bodyweight is much harder than it appears. A 16 inch arm can look extraordinary on a lean 150 pound lifter and far less dramatic on a heavier lifter with more body fat, a larger frame, or longer arms. Your scale weight also includes far more than muscle. It reflects fat mass, bone mass, body water, organs, and the muscle in your entire body. That means there is no scientifically validated equation that can tell you whether your biceps are “big” simply by dividing arm circumference by…

Two months after my first WordCamp, I landed in Phoenix, AZ, for WordCamp US to experience it again, this time in another part of the world but with a similar group of people equally passionate about open source.  At first glance, the Arizona desert seems simple, barren. But look closer, and there is an elegance in that simplicity that is art in and of itself.  Like good technology, everything has a purpose, nothing is wasted, and there is beauty in that. At WCUS this year that I saw art and technology converge. A four-day family reunion  WordCamp US 2026 ran…

For journalist Katie S. Sanders, the foray into her family’s World War II lore came to her, like many others, “tucked in the attic.”Her grandfather, Lt. Murray Simon, seldom spoke of wartime experiences, let alone the details regarding being shot down in a B-24 on a secret mission one month prior to D-Day.All that was left was a piece of that downed plane — an antenna cover loop — painted black to blend into the cover of darkness. Still, that and a shoebox full of military medals was all “just a little bit of mythology to me,” Sanders told Military…

On August 19, the Ukrainian parliament voted overwhelmingly to confirm Ukraine’s new defense minister, ending weeks of uncertainty at a crucial phase of the war. For more than a month, Ukrainians had taken to the streets of Kyiv and other cities to protest President Volodymyr Zelensky’s firing of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. His successor, Yevhenii Khmara, is a special operations officer, best known for leading Operation Spider’s Web, the successful attack on Russian strategic bombers deep inside Russia. But the political fallout from this summer’s upheaval is not over. The removal of Fedorov, whom many Ukrainians considered highly effective, set off…
