A decades-long study suggests that your daily caffeine fix might be doing more than jolting you through morning meetings – it could also be quietly helping your brain hold it together. Updated at 4:35 p.m. ET March 20 People who have completed fellowships that the State Department uses to recruit new talent have been waiting for months to be onboarded into the Foreign Service, according to a Thursday letter that Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., sent to Secretary Marco Rubio requesting an explanation for the hold up. “This delay in onboarding mission-ready fellows undermines U.S. diplomatic readiness, wastes congressionally appropriated taxpayer dollars and directly harms these outstanding Americans while simultaneously discouraging future talent from applying to the Foreign Service,” the senator wrote. More than 50 Thomas R. Pickering and Charles B. Rangel fellows from…
NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan — Could it be high fuel prices, or a desire to avoid upsetting U.S. President Donald Trump? What about China’s annual political confab in early March? Costello van Steenis successfully defended his middleweight crown at PFL Madrid, defeating Fabian Edwards with an insane elbow KO. While the opening round was fairly competitive, van Steenis found himself with the late advantage after stuffing a takedown attempt from Edwards and nearly cinching in a guillotine choke. Edwards quickly defended, but was forced to give up top control to the defending champ, likely putting van Steenis up 1-0 after the first five minutes. Edwards went right back to his grappling in the second and managed to get van Steenis to the mat, though his success was short-lived. With just…
Pentagon officials report that the ground-launched Precision Strike Missile—PrSM for short—made a successful combat debut in the opening hours of the war on Iran. The new, now-proven ground-launched missile offers long-range strike capacity needed in the Middle East, to counter further Russian aggression in Eastern Europe, and to deter Chinese action in the Pacific. Washington should move quickly to replace expended PrSMs and expand the U.S. capacity to produce them.Like the older Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, the Precision Strike Missile is a short-range ballistic missile fired from the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) or the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket…
MILAN — French company Texelis Defense and Finnish defense manufacturer Scata have partnered to develop new combat vehicle made entirely in Finland, with variants planned for counter-drone and air-defense operations. The 18-ton vehicle, dubbed the MK1, was developed in less than a year and is envisioned as a multi-role platform incorporating lessons the companies have drawn from the war in Ukraine.Company officials told Defense News the project took shape after they identified a market gap in the European market: an intermediate segment between light vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles.“In Finland, we already have two combat vehicle suppliers, Sisu and Patria, whose offers…
