WASHINGTON — The House approved a compromise $838.7 billion fiscal 2026 defense spending bill today, paving the way for final passage through the Senate next week. Lawmakers voted 341-88 on a largely bipartisan basis to push forward the defense budget, which was coupled with FY26 spending for several other departments. The funding proposal includes $8.4 billion more than the Pentagon’s request, falling short of the more than $50 billion in additional funding asked for by the department in the months since it sent its budget proposal to the Hill. BERLIN — Ukraine claims to have detained two Russian spies who were involved in scoping out the damage caused by Moscow’s Oreshnik ballistic missile in Lviv. Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, said in a statement the suspects were a 64-year-old from the southwestern Transcarpathia region of Ukraine and his 22-year-old unemployed neighbor. The arrest was announced in the morning of Thursday, local time. The Air Force expects to have a Boeing 747 gifted from Qatar ready to serve as an interim Air Force One presidential transport plane by this summer.In a statement to Defense News, an Air Force spokesperson said the service “remains committed to expediting delivery of the VC-25 bridge aircraft in support of the presidential airlift mission,” and the plane is on track to be delivered no later than summer 2026.
