There is no shortage of volatility in the Middle East. In the wake of protests in Iran, Washington has threatened to strike; violence in Gaza continues despite a cease-fire; Hezbollah is rearming in Lebanon; and factional rivalries are destabilizing Syria. But the next front to explode may be one that policymakers keep treating as an afterthought—the West Bank. Since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, massacre and Israel’s subsequent military assault on Gaza, the Israeli government has mounted a de facto annexation drive, stepping up its military presence in the West Bank, exerting sustained pressure on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to weaken…

The TWZ Newsletter Weekly insights and analysis on the latest developments in military technology, strategy, and foreign policy. As he mulls over a decision about whether to attack Iran, President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered a second aircraft carrier strike group (CSG) to prepare for a Middle East deployment. However, even if that is authorized, it would take weeks for the vessels to arrive in the region. The Wall Street Journal reported that in addition to being told to get ready to head to the Middle East, the ships could soon be ordered to deploy. If that happens, the CSG…
2026 could be the year of UFC superstar Nate Diaz’s return to the Octagon for the first time since UFC 279. It’s been almost four full years since UFC fans have watched Nate Diaz compete inside the Octagon. After submitting Tony Ferguson in a short-notice bout at UFC 279, Diaz parted ways with the promotion, fighting twice in the boxing ring. Following a lopsided defeat to Jake Paul and his first pro boxing win over Jorge Masvidal, Diaz sounds ready to return to his roots. He’s repeatedly teased a return to the Octagon in recent months, but has downplayed the…
The UFC plans to part ways with UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight Jailton Almeida. Almeida suffered a decision loss to Rizvan Kuniev on Saturday in a lackluster effort from the Brazilian. Almeida landed just 31 significant strikes in the three-round defeat, after landing just nine in a loss to Alexander Volkov the fight prior. So, after two lackluster performances, MMA journalist Laerte Viana reported on X that the UFC is set to part ways with Almeida. “I just confirmed that the UFC made the decision this afternoon. Malhadinho leaves the organization after eight wins in 11 fights,” Viana wrote on…
A new recurring column of mine for 2026 is finally here! It’s an article series dedicated to playable demos for games that are typically still in development. The idea is to publish it midweek, specifically every Wednesday, and try to stick to that schedule. The concept comes from the fact that, thankfully, playable demos and limited-time playtests are becoming more and more common, and it’s often hard to keep track of which ones are available. More importantly, it’s also a way to shine a spotlight on games that often fly under the radar. With that said, my first article of…
