Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was announced on June 4, 2025 during the PlayStation State of Play event that aired that day. As such, it’s been over 240 days since Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Dr. Doom, Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man and Ghost Rider were revealed.
The developers have not revealed a single character since those initial eight. This feels particularly strange considering that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is supposed to be a 4v4 team fighting game. One would think that this sort of game would need an especially large roster to support the team dynamics of this sort of fighting game.
Even though Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is scheduled to release sometime in 2026, some fans have been arguing that the developers may have revealed the game a little too early. Fortunately, the producer for the game, Takeshi Yamanaka, shared a year-end message where he confirmed that new character announcements were indeed on the way.
“2026 will be a big year for us! Our whole team is working hard to make this a game that you will enjoy for years to come, a title that will continue to grow with its community,” said Yamanaka.
“We still have more characters to announce, along with more exciting moments where you’ll be able to see the game in action. Stay tuned!”
At the very least, we’ve been given a couple of opportunities to try out closed beta builds for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Still, it would be nice to get some character announcements relatively soon due to how long it’s been since those first eight combatants were revealed.
Rumor has it that Sony is gearing up for another State of Play event on the second week of February, though this has yet to be officially confirmed. If that ends up happening, there’s a fairly decent chance that there will be news for Marvel Tokon considering how the game was first revealed during one of the past presentations.
Rooflemonger recently released a video that talks a great deal about the subject. Check it all out below:
