Warner Bros. delivered a huge hit this year with the horror movie Weapons. Directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian), the movie told the haunting story of a class of children disappearing and unraveling the truth of what happened to them through the perspective of several different people.
The film was originally released in theaters on August 8 and was met with wide acclaim, earning a 93% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s regarded as one of 2025’s best movies and was seen by many on the big screen, allowing it to make $267 million at the box office worldwide. If you missed it or just want to watch it again, there’s good news.
Weapons Has Made Its Streaming Debut On HBO Max: Why You Should Watch It
As a Warner Bros. movie, Weapons was locked into making its streaming debut on HBO Max. The only real question was when this would happen. WB’s average suggested a late October release was most likely, and that’s exactly what happened. Weapons is now streaming on HBO Max as of October 24.
This comes 77 days after its theatrical release, matching the gap from theaters to streaming that WB used with their other recent horror films like Sinners and Final Destination Bloodlines. Now, anyone with an HBO Max subscription can immediately stream Weapons from the comfort of their own home at any time.
HBO Max subscription options: Basic with Ads – $10.99/month, Standard – $18.49/month, Premium – $22.99/month
There are plenty of reasons to watch Weapons, if you haven’t already. Cregger created an incredibly mysterious tale here, and the way he unravels the truth about what happened to the missing kids is truly thrilling. The story holds plenty of surprises and moments that subvert expectations, while the tone is just as humorous as it is tense.
The film greatly benefits from strong performances throughout the cast, too. Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Austin Abrams (Wolfs), and Amy Maddigan (Field of Dreams) are terrific, but the young Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives) is a true standout.
Weapons is an easy recommendation to anyone who considers themselves a horror fan, even if it’s not as straightforward a scary film as some may expect. If you saw Cregger’s last movie, Barbarian, he bends genres once more here to great results.
Even if you aren’t a huge horror fan, if you like Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, or Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, this is a film worth checking out. They are considered movies like Weapons as Cregger admitted they inspired him throughout the process.
With a brilliant cast, a clever script, and moments that you won’t forget, Weapons should be considered a must-watch for any film lover. And now that its available on streaming, its the perfect chance to check it out or revisit its excellence.
