DUSSELDORF, Germany. Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland joint venture Artec received two option call-offs from European defense organization OCCAR for 69 additional Schakal wheeled infantry fighting vehicles for Germany and the Netherlands, Rheinmetall announced in a statement. The orders cover 35 vehicles for the Bundeswehr and 34 for the Royal Netherlands Army.
The Schakal combines the Boxer 8×8 vehicle chassis with the turret used on the Puma infantry fighting vehicle and incorporates digital networking and fire-control technology. Its armament includes Rheinmetall’s MK 30-2/ABM cannon and the MELLS anti-tank guided missile system.
The two option call-offs have a combined value in the mid-three-digit-million-euro range, according to Rheinmetall, with deliveries planned between May 2032 and November 2033. The original October 2025 contract covered 222 vehicles and options for as many as 200 additional systems; the latest call-offs increase the planned total to 291.
