PHOENIX, Arizona. Honeywell Aerospace introduced a portable satellite-communications system for C-130 aircraft designed to provide access to multiple satellite networks and allow operators to move the capability between aircraft, the company announced in a statement.
The JetWave X Hatch Mount Antenna, developed with R4 Integration, can connect to networks including Viasat 3 and is designed to switch between available networks if a satellite signal is degraded or jammed. Honeywell says the system can provide download speeds exceeding 300 Mbps in busy flight corridors and upload speeds of up to 25 Mbps.
Unlike a permanently installed fuselage-mounted antenna, the hatch-mounted system is designed to be transferred between aircraft in about one hour, according to the company. Honeywell says the portable approach is intended to reduce aircraft installation costs and downtime while giving C-130 operators the ability to shift satellite-communications capacity among aircraft as mission requirements change.
