Round 1: O’Doherty testing Gomez’s defense with frequent jabs right out of the gate. Plenty of output from both fighters as they’re trading jabs, Gomez breaks the monotony with a couple of straight rights. He’s letting that right go and O’Doherty doing a poor job of avoiding it. O’Doherty sticking with the jab, but he’s being out-landed. Gomez with an uppercut inside, Gomez bullying him. I don’t like O’Doherty’s chances to go the distance if he doesn’t start making Gomez respect him.

Round 2: Gomez right back on the offensive, O’Doherty’s jab just not providing enough pressure to slow Gomez down. Gomez with a straight right, then an uppercut. O’Doherty is landing, Gomez is just walking through it all. O’Doherty with a stiff counter. Gomez with a couple of punches to the body. Straight right sends O’Doherty retreating. Gomez lures him into another uppercut. That chin is being tested.

Round 3: O’Doherty continues to circle, but Gomez has his movement figured out and keeps connecting with jabs and straights. O’Doherty firing back enough to make this a fight, he’s definitely getting the worst of it, though. Gomez mixing up his punches well. He just keeps coming forward, fighting as a bigger fighter should. Gomez rips the body. O’Doherty with a short uppercut inside. Hard right from Gomez, O’Doherty reacting to one of those in a significant way for once.

Round 4: Gritty start to the fourth, they’re scrapping in close, the referee letting them work. Phone booth scrap there before O’Doherty creates some separation. He goes back in, though, burying his head in Gomez’s chest, looking to neutralize any reach advantage. Gomez just pushes him off and starts throwing again, that right is tenderizing O’Doherty’s ribs. Another cracking uppercut from Gomez. He’s piling on the punches, leaving no doubt on the cards. Big punches from Gomez to close out the round, O’Doherty so tough.

Round 5: Gomez right back on it. Walk forward, right hand, uppercut, rinse, repeat. O’Doherty not going away, still defending himself intelligently enough. He mixes in some body shots, he’s needed that earlier. Not a bad round for O’Doherty, but Gomez still landing the bigger punches. Gomez literally punching down, getting a little overeager here as he’s missed quite a bit in this round. Strong finish for Gomez, but this could be one for O’Doherty.

Round 6: O’Doherty the aggressor now, maybe he’s figured something out. Gomez not giving up the advantage quietly though, he’s making O’Doherty pay when he gets too close. Gomez punches the body. He looks content to let O’Doherty stay in his face now, maybe waiting to land a big shot. Left hook from Gomez. He follows with a right, O’Doherty having trouble with the pressure now. Gomez with two more uppercuts in close. O’Doherty firing out the jab, daring Gomez to chase him.

Round 7: Nice left hook by Gomez. He’s happy to stand and trade with O’Doherty and for good reason. Just a little more sizzle on those Gomez shots. That inside uppercut is money for Gomez. O’Doherty connecting with jabs, but just too predictable in this frame. More body work from Gomez, though the referee warns him about hitting too close to the belt. O’Doherty sneaking in punches when Gomez overextends. They brawl to end an entertaining seventh.
