Fans were initially disappointed that Mai Shiranui wouldn’t have her Classic Costume in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It felt like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all over again when Masahiro Sakurai commented on why Mai was absent as a background cameo from Terry Bogard’s home stage in that game.
“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is for good boys and girls of many different ages, so we decided not to feature her. Please forgive us,” said Sakurai back then.
Fortunately, it was announced that Mai’s Classic Costume would be packaged with the Switch 2 version of Fatal Fury as a pre-order bonus when it releases on October 22, 2026. Of course, those on other platforms will still be able to acquire the fan favorite costume for Mai as paid DLC.
We suspected that this costume would become available starting on October 22, 2026 — the same day in which the Switch 2 version of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and the two Tokyo Revengers characters (Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji) were released.
Earlier this morning, SNK has confirmed that this is indeed the case. Mai’s Classic Costume can be purchased for $2.99 starting on October 22.
Fans will also be able to get access to Terry Bogard’s Classic Costume for the same price as well. However, it should be noted that the costumes can only be purchased by those that did not pre-order for the Switch 2 version starting on January 21, 2027.
