ALCOBENDAS, Spain. Indra Group acquired Dares Technology and plans to integrate the company’s synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) technology and image-processing software into its Tarsis family of uncrewed aircraft systems, the company announced in a statement.
The acquisition gives Indra access to a compact SAR sensor and processing software designed to generate high-resolution imagery and identify small changes in terrain. Indra plans to adapt the technology for defense applications including high-precision mapping and surveillance of movements by personnel, vehicles, and other objects. The sensor will be integrated into Class I Tarsis uncrewed systems weighing less than 150 kilograms.
Indra says the SAR technology can also support maritime patrol, vessel detection and tracking, border surveillance, critical-infrastructure monitoring, and satellite-based Earth observation. Because SAR does not depend on visible light, the sensor is intended to support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions in varying weather and lighting conditions.
