Moraes, 38, originally made a name for himself after winning the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) bantamweight championship back in 2014 and then defending it five successful times. That landed Moraes a UFC contract in 2017, but the talented fighter never quite lived up to his hype. Moraes certainly had his moments — including fighting Henry Cejudo for the vacant UFC bantamweight title in 2019 — but ended his UFC career on a four-fight losing streak. The Brazilian fighter tried his hand outside of UFC, but he went 0-3 under the Professional Fighters League (PFL) banner.
Back in April, Moraes decided to switch careers and become a police officer in Coral Springs, Florida. “Magic” revealed at the time that he loves to help people and enjoys going to work each and every day. Of course, not every incident as a cop allows Moraes to actually help someone. In some cases, Moraes has to lay the law down and put his previous experience to use.
Earlier this week, Moraes was part of a traffic stop that turned physical pretty quickly. The driver was becoming a little aggressive with Moraes and other officers and blurted out, “What are you gonna do?” Moraes, who is a world-class MMA fighter, obviously wasn’t intimidated by the perp, but once the driver stepped towards the former UFC title challenger things ended abruptly.
“Do not step against me,” said Moraes after slamming the driver to the ground. “You want to go? You’re going to go.”
