UFC newcomer Gable Steveson was praised by UFC boss Dana White in the wake of his victory over Elisha Ellison.
At UFC 329, Gable Steveson defeated Elisha Ellison in a really interesting fight to begin his promotional run in style. Gable has long been tipped for greatness in mixed martial arts, and while he may only have a handful of professional fights to his name, he certainly seems to be piecing things together nicely as he prepares to make a run for the gold.
Gable Steveson has the benefit of Greg Jackson, Jon Jones and others being behind him, but in truth, his natural talent is enough to grab the attention of anyone – which is probably one of the reasons why Dana White was so eager to sign him.
In the post-fight press conference, White explained just what it is that impressed him so much about Gable Steveson.
Gable Steveson’s debut praised by Dana White
“It was incredible,” White told reporters at the UFC 329 post-fight press conference. “Normally what happens, especially for as long as I’ve been in this business, you sign a big, badass, high-level wrestler like that, they come and stink the place up and lay on the ground. That dude did the exact opposite. He looked like a mixed martial artist. He didn’t look like a wrestler to me. He’s fun, throwing kicks, punches, and willing to stand in the pocket and bang. A lot of wrestlers don’t like to get punched in the face. So yeah, he’s fun. It’s going to be interesting.”

Now, it’s all about seeing how Gable performs when he takes a step up in competition. There’s no guarantee of his being given a slingshot all the way to the top, but he definitely has a lot of people interested in his potential. Still, there were a few holes that popped up even in such a brief outing, but his overall prospects are intriguing.
It’s now over to Dana White and company to determine what kind of trajectory they want to give this young, fascinating heavyweight contender.
