Hexonia GmbH will supply the new combat helmet for the German Armed Forces. This week the company received an order from Bundeswehr Bekleidungsmanagement GmbH (BwBM). With this contract, the Bundeswehr will receive a combat helmet from Hexonia that is not only state-of-the-art and tailored to its needs, but is also produced exclusively in-house at the company’s facility in Nettetal and at the NFM Group site in Lebork, Poland.
New Combat Helmet for the Armed Forces Impresses in User Testing
Hexonia began developing combat helmets in 2020, and since 2022, the company has been equipping the German Special Forces (KSK) with the Special Forces Helmet System (‘Helmsystem Spezialkräfte’). Drawing on the development expertise gained over the past few years and extensive investments in the latest manufacturing technologies, the medium-sized company from Nettetal has now succeeded in developing a state-of-the-art helmet tailored to the Bundeswehr’s current needs and specifications. The helmet, made of ultralight, high-strength polyethylene, offers ballistic protection against shrapnel and handgun ammunition. The lightweight shell and the user-customizable interior, including pads, padding, a headband, and a chin strap, provide a high level of comfort and ensure a secure fit even when wearing additional equipment. Hexonia offers the helmet in both high-cut and full-cut versions.
“Winning a bid of this magnitude against strong competitors in the market is a major success for all of us. We are particularly proud that user ratings played a decisive role in the award of the contract. This reinforces our commitment to staying close to our customers and providing them with the right solutions,” explains Dennis Rechenberger, Director of Business Development at Hexonia.
Hexonia Focuses on Domestic Value Creation and Partners in Europe
Two business principles have always guided Hexonia’s operations: manufacturing at its own facilities and within Europe, and sourcing materials and components from EU and NATO countries. This allows the company to consistently ensure the availability of its products. Hexonia also follows these guidelines in the production of the Gefechtshelm Streitkräfte. The merger with the NFM Group (in 2022) and the resulting access to a Europe-wide production network enables the Nettetal-based company to generate the vast majority of the value added in helmet production within the group and in Germany.
“This contract is of enormous significance for us as a company, but also for the region as a business hub. It allows us to continue investing extensively in our own facilities and resources. By carrying out a large part of the manufacturing and all repairs here in Nettetal, we are preserving and creating secure jobs and helping to ensure that the federal government’s defense investments remain as value added within Germany,” emphasizes Sabine Albert, Managing Director of Hexonia GmbH.

The helmet project symbolizes a strong partnership between Hexonia and NFM
“We view winning this major helmet contract in Germany as a testament to our daily work, which is characterized by intensive cross-border collaboration within the NFM Group. As the Center of Excellence for helmets within the NFM Group, Hexonia took the lead in driving the development of the new combat helmet for the German Armed Forces and incorporated technical expertise from various NFM business units. A project success like this can only be the result of teamwork. We are proud that we can draw on these synergies within the NFM Group,” says Nils Toverud, Deputy CEO of the NFM Group.
