Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Joe Lauzon has inked a new deal with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) to debut on the promotion’s upcoming BKFC 92 fight card on Aug. 29 from Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
While Lauzon is from the Massachusetts area and should attract some extra attention locally, the former UFC fighter hasn’t competed in any form of combat sports since a surprising TKO victory over Jonathan Pearce all the way back in 2019. That was under the UFC banner, but almost seven years ago. It’s unknown at this time what Lauzon has left in the tank (if anything).
What makes the signing even more strange is the fact that Lauzon is a grappling-heavy fighter. The UFC veteran may have some knockouts under his belt, but he’s a submission artist at heart. In fact, 17 out of Lauzon’s 28 career MMA wins have come by way of submission. He was never considered a dangerous striker or even someone who can do a lot of damage with his hands. It’s a little odd that Lauzon would return to combat sports after such a long layoff and under the BKFC banner to boot.
All of that said, Lauzon will have a chance to prove his doubters wrong when BKFC rolls out their upcoming event at Fenway Park this summer. The promotion announced Lauzon’s addition to the card earlier today, but no opponent was named.
