25.06.2026 – The Finnish Border Guard has launched the development of counter-drone capabilities in cooperation with industry partners. The project aims to build a nationwide system that integrates fixed surveillance and effect capabilities with mobile countermeasure solutions.
SISU GTP platform as part of the patrol vehicle solution
With secured funding, the Finnish Border Guard will initiate the procurement of patrol vehicles and patrol boats equipped with counter-drone capabilities. The vehicle solution is based on a system supplied by Saab AB, built on the SISU GTP vehicle platform.
The patrol vehicles and boats will be equipped with harmonized capabilities, systems, and technologies designed to support drone detection, countermeasures, and operational command and control.
The overall industrial solution will be delivered through a Finnish-Nordic consortium led by the Finnish Border Guard. Within this framework, Marine Alutech Oy Ab will provide the counter-drone capable patrol boat, Saab AB will supply the patrol vehicle solution based on the SISU GTP platform, Nokia Oyj will contribute intelligent network solutions, and 61N Solutions Oy will be responsible for integrating data into authorities’ command and control systems.
The Finnish Border Guard has signed an agreement with Marine Alutech Oy Ab and letters of intent with Saab AB and Nokia Oyj. The parties aim to conclude final delivery agreements by the end of 2026.
In the first phase, evaluation versions of the patrol vehicle and patrol boat, including their systems and integrations, will be procured. The evaluation phase is scheduled for 2027–2028. Based on the results, potential series procurements will be prepared, with funding decisions to be made later.
The developed solutions are intended for nationwide use in border security tasks, territorial integrity monitoring and protection, and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
