“Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern” presented the full-scale version Tor-M2KM short-range air defense missile system (ADMS) for the first time at the static display of the Fleet-2026 International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS)
EDR On-Line previously reported on this modification of the Tor ADMS system, based on models showcased at international military-technical exhibitions.
The 9K331MKM Tor-M2KM ADMS system is a modification of the Tor-M2E system and features the ability to mount combat and technical assets on any platform of corresponding displacement or payload capacity. The system consists of a 9A331MK-1 autonomous combat module (ACM), a 9M334D surface-to-air missile module with four 9M331D surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), a transporter and loader vehicle, a maintenance workshop, and other equipment. Additionally, the system can be supplied with a commander and operator simulator, a mobile power plant, and a battery command post. Each ACM contains two SAMs modules. The Tor-M2KM ADMS can fire all SAMs of the 9M331 family, and its ammunition complement has been supplemented with the modernized 9M331D missile, which has an increased firing range of 15 km.
As explained to EDR On-Line at the “Almaz-Antey Conce” booth, the ABM system can be transported by rail or sea, on An-124, An-22, and Il-76 military transport aircraft, and under sling with Mi-26 heavy transport helicopter. The module is equipped with a modern route navigation system, as well as its own autonomous power source with fuel reserves. The ABM combat crew consists of two people – a commander and an operator.
The 9A331MK-1 ACM is fully autonomous and highly resistant to interference. A battery of four ACMs can simultaneously engage up to 16 air targets such as aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, anti-radar missiles, guided missiles, guided glide bombs, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The module can be integrated into any existing air defense system. The ACM can be mounted on a all-terrain truck chassis with a minimum load capacity of 20 tons, a low-deck semi-trailer with a similar load capacity, a standard railway platform, or the deck of ships with adequate space. The maximum mass of the module is 15 tonnes.
The Tor-M2KM system’s air defense detection range is 32 km, while the target speed can reach 700 m/s. The SAM system’s reaction time from target detection to missile launch when stationary is 5-10 seconds. The missiles are launched vertically, and the ADMS system carries eight missiles. The range of engagement is 1,000 to 15,000 metres, and the altitude range is 10 to 10,000 metres. The system’s loading time is 18 minutes.
Currently, the new Russian Project 2280 corvettes (codename Karakurt) are equipped with the Tor-M2KM air defense system.
