It’s easily one of the most promising tactical RPGs currently in development, thanks to its striking visual style and a combat system that looks poised to deliver both depth and variety. I’m talking about Prelude Dark Pain, a dark fantasy RPG developed by the Spanish team at QUICKFIREGAMES.
I recently had the chance to go hands-on with an early demo that will be available to the public starting June 5, ahead of Steam Next Fest, scheduled for mid-month. The demo offers roughly an hour of story gameplay and doesn’t stray too far from what I experienced back in 2025.
That said, one improvement stood out immediately: the massive leap forward in both visuals and UI design. In addition to the opening section, the demo also lets players jump into free battles using a roster of five characters.
If you’re looking for more details about the game itself, check out my video overview via the link. Below, you’ll also find my recent walkthrough, where I showcase part of the combat system and some of the mechanics tied to environmental interaction and encounter design.
Prelude Dark Pain is currently slated to launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch in Q3 2026.
