Chimaev (15-1 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since claiming the promotion‘s middleweight title with a lopsided decision victory over Dricus Du Plessis this past August at UFC 319. Prior to that title-earning triumph, ‘Borz’ was coming off wins over former UFC champions Kamaru Usman and Robert Whittaker.
Meanwhile, Sean Strickland (31-7 MMA) most previously competed this past February, where he earned an impressive third-round TKO victory over Anthony Hernandez. Prior to that win, the brash American was coming off a decision loss to Dricus Du Plessis in a fight for the promotion’s middleweight title at UFC 312.

Round one of the UFC 328 main event begins and Khamzat Chimaev opens with a body kick. He immediately shoots for a takedown and gets it. Sean Strickland looks to scramble but gives up his back. ‘Borz’ takes his back and locks in both hooks. Stickland looks to get up. Chimaev takes him back to the floor and locks in a body triangle. Sean is doing a good job of defending any choke attempts. The champ continues to control the former champ on the ground. He gets a hold of a choke. Strickland defends and the horn sounds to end the opening round.

Round two of the UFC 328 main event begins and Sean Strickland begins to assert his jab. He lands a nice hook. Khamzat Chimaev seems content to stand for now. A nice jab and then a right over the top by the American. Chimaev goes to the body with a punch. Strickland counters with a nice right. Now a good jab from the challenger. ‘Borz’ shoots for a takedown, Sean stuffs it and takes top position. He’s working from the full guard position. A nice left hand from Sean. He opts to let Chimaev back up. Good shots from Sean Strickland. He gets Chimaev back down and then champ already looks gassed. One minute remains in the second round. Strickland passes to half guard. Good right hands from the former champ. The horn sounds to end round two.
Round three of the UFC 328 headliner begins and the fighters trade punches. ‘Borz’ is swinging heavy shots. Sean Strickland tags him with a pair of good jabs. Chimaev lands one of his own. Both men with good jabs. Chimaev goes to the body with a jab. Strickland with a counter right. Now a pair of good jabs. Chimaev with a good hook. A nice jab in return from the American. Now a big right hand. The champ goes back to the body with a hook. Sean Strickland continues to land his jab. A big left from Khamzat Chimaev connects. Sean appears to be ok. He lands a right hand. Now a pair of jabs. Another good left from Khamzat. Strickland’s nose is bleeding now. Chimaev continues to land his left. The horn sounds to end round three.
Round four begins and Khamzat Chimaev comes out quickly with a pair of left hands. Sean Strickland with a nice jab. ‘Borz’ goes to the body with a kick. Chimaev with a left and then a kick to the body. A big right and then a left from the champ. Strickland appears tired. Khamzat is pressing the action. Both men connect with jabs. Khamzat with a good left. And another. Strickland replies with a jab. Both men are busted up. Chimaev with a left hand. He’s landing the better volume here. One minute remains in the round. Khamzat Chimaev with a jab and then shoots in and scores a big takedown. Strickland gives up his back but begins to stand back up. ‘Borz’ has him pressed against the cage. The horn sounds and we move to round five.
The fifth and final round begins and Khamzat Chimaev gets in on an early takedown attempt. Sean Strickland looks to hit a sweep and almost winds up back on top of the champ again. Back to standing and the American lands a pair of jabs. ‘Borz’ with a right hand. They continue to trade shots. Strickland with a hard right. Chimaev continues to be the aggressor. He lands a good right hand. The champ with a takedown attempt. He manages to get Sean down for a second. Under a minute remains in the fight. Sean Strickland breaks free and finds a home for a right hand. Now a pair of jabs. Chimaev with a good right late. The horn sounds to end the fight.
