Today’s UFC Perth event was headlined by a key welterweight bout featuring Jack Della Maddalena taking on Carlos Prates.
Della Maddalena (16-4 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since losing the promotion‘s welterweight title to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322 in November of last year. Prior to that setback, ‘JDM’ had put together an eighteen-fight winning streak, which included victories over Belal Muhammad, Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland.
Meanwhile, Carlos Prates (24-7 MMA) had most previously competed in the Octagon bck at UFC 322 in Madison Square Garden, where he scored a second-round knockout victory over former title holder Leon Edwards (see that here). ‘The Nightmare’ had gone 4-1 over his past five fights prior to today’s affair, earning all four wins by way of knockout and having his lone loss come against Ian Machado Garry via decision.
Today’s UFC Perth headliner resulted in a coming out party for the Brazilian known as ‘The Nightmare’. Prates was able to get the better of Jack Della Maddalena in the standup right from the opening horn, blasting the Aussie with low kicks, knees and heavy punches. After nearly finishing the fight in the late stages of round two, Carlos Prates proceeded to drop ‘JDM’ on three occasions in round three, this before ultimately finishing him off with ground and pound strikes.

10-9 Prates in R1
JDM blocked a good percentage of the output from Prates, but he certainly landed enough substantive offence to seal the round
