NATO – North Atlantic Treaty Organisation
20 February 2026
On Friday (20 February 2026), NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska joined the European Group of Five (E5) in Krakow, Poland, to discuss efforts to strengthen Euro-Atlantic security and NATO’s deterrence and defence, hybrid threats, and ongoing support to Ukraine. Representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, attended the E5 meeting.
Ms Shekerinska underlined that the NATO Alliance is the bedrock of European security, and commended the efforts of the E5 in strengthening transatlantic security by increasing defence investment and production, in line with the commitments made at the NATO Summit in The Hague last year. “The stronger each Ally becomes, the stronger NATO will be”, the Deputy Secretary General stated.
In discussions with the Defence Minister of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ms Shekerinska was clear on the need for Allies to step up their support for Ukraine and welcomed efforts to provide Ukraine much needed air defence, both from Allied stockpiles and through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).
